What sets the price per linear foot

Cabinet jobs are priced by the linear foot, which is the length of the cabinet run measured along the wall. Our installed range is $100 – $1,200 per linear ft. Where you land depends mostly on the cabinet grade.

GradeInstalled price per linear ft
Stock$100 – $300 per linear ft
Semi-custom$150 – $600 per linear ft
Custom$500 – $1,200 per linear ft

Stock cabinets come in set sizes and finishes. Semi-custom cabinets offer more sizes, finishes and add-ons. Custom cabinets are built to fit your exact space.

What else moves the number?

  • Total length of uppers and lowers
  • Tall pantry or oven cabinets, which use more material per foot
  • Inside extras like pull-outs, drawer organizers and soft-close hardware
  • Walls or floors that are out of level and need extra shimming
  • Layout changes, which can bring in plumbing or electrical work

How to estimate your kitchen

  1. Measure each wall that has cabinets.
  2. Add the lengths together.
  3. Multiply the total by the price per foot for the grade you want.

Does cabinet price include removal, appliances and dishwasher?

The cabinet price of $100 – $1,200 per linear ft covers the cabinets and their installation. Kitchens vary a lot, so check what else is listed on your written quote.

Is removing the old cabinets included?

Tear-out and haul-away should appear as a line on the quote. Removing old cabinets often affects the countertop too. Most tops cannot be lifted off and reused on new boxes without risk of cracking.

Are appliances included?

No. Appliances are not part of the per-foot cabinet price. You buy them yourself, or they are priced separately.

What about the dishwasher?

The dishwasher is an appliance, so it is not in the cabinet price either. It does have to come out while the sink base is replaced. After that, it gets reinstalled and reconnected.

Who handles hookups?

Reconnecting the sink, dishwasher, disposal and range needs the right trades:

  • Plumbing: water and drain lines
  • Electrical: new outlets or circuits
  • Gas: its own separate trade

Do you need a new gas line for a new range?

Not always. If the new range sits in the same spot and the existing gas pipe and shutoff are in good shape, the pipe in the wall can often stay. What usually gets replaced is the short flexible connector between the shutoff and the range.

The Florida residential code covers this. Appliances that get moved for cleaning, like a range, must connect with a listed appliance connector. Connectors cannot be longer than 6 feet overall, and they must be installed per the maker's instructions.

When does the gas line need work?

  • You move the range to a new spot in the new layout
  • You switch from an electric range to gas
  • The shutoff valve will be hidden or hard to reach behind new cabinets
  • The old pipe or fittings show rust or damage

A pressure test is common before the line goes back in service.

Do you need a permit to replace kitchen cabinets in SWFL?

Swapping cabinets in the same layout is often treated as cosmetic. Permits come in when the job touches plumbing, electrical, gas or mechanical systems. Moving a sink, adding outlets, running a new range circuit or installing a new vented hood can all count.

Who issues the permit?

It depends on where your home sits:

  • Lee County: the county covers unincorporated areas. Cities like Fort Myers issue their own permits.
  • Charlotte County: Punta Gorda issues permits inside city limits. Charlotte County Community Development covers the rest.
  • Sarasota County: a new state law, HB 803, starts July 1, 2026. It lets single-family owners skip a building permit for work valued under $7,500. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas work still need a permit.

The flood zone 50% rule

If your home is in a FEMA high-risk flood zone, a big remodel can trigger the 50% rule. A substantial improvement is work that costs 50% or more of the building's market value. If you reach it, the whole home must meet current flood rules, which can mean raising it. Cabinets alone rarely hit this, but a full kitchen plus other projects can.

Common questions

Do I need a permit for a kitchen cabinet replacement?

If the job includes plumbing, electrical or gas work, plan on a permit under the Florida Building Code. Whether it comes from the city or the county depends on whether your home is inside city limits, such as Punta Gorda or Fort Myers.

Can a kitchen remodel trigger flood zone rules?

It can if your home is in a FEMA high-risk flood zone. In Lee, Charlotte and Sarasota counties, if the remodel cost reaches 50% or more of the building's value, the whole home may have to meet current flood rules. That can mean raising the home.

Should I pick out my appliances first?

Yes. Pick your appliances, or at least lock in their exact model numbers and spec sheets, before the cabinets are ordered. The width of the range, the height of the fridge and the size of the dishwasher decide the cabinet openings. Changing an appliance after ordering can mean resizing or reordering cabinets.
